Sports

Sports has the power to transform lives.

It draws the community together through play, while instilling values of discipline, teamwork and focus. Through sports, we are shifting vulnerable youth from being exploitable to being champions for change.

Basketball -
Bakee Mtaani

Bakee Mtaani (Basketball in the Hood) program was designed to introduce a basketball playing culture in the informal settlements within Nairobi. The program aims to provide safe public spaces for youths and communities at large in Nairobi’s informal areas to come together and have fun playing basketball. As witnessed, it empowers young people through sports, helping them develop positive life skills.

So far, JFF has built four full-size basketball courts: Gatina, HGM, BP, and Humama. These courts were launched in November 2020, November 2021, January 2022, and July 2022, respectively. The Humama basketball court was built in partnership with KFC “Kuku Foods.”

The foundation intends to construct a total of 25 basketball courts (both half and full size) in different communities, which will serve as safe spaces for driving social change.

“I am grateful to have been introduced to basketball and look forward to expanding my skills in the game.”

Football -
Nairobi City Stars

Nairobi City Stars is a Kawangware community-based men’s football club founded in 2003 as World Hope Football Club. The players are young men from marginalised and underprivileged backgrounds.

At the point of acquisition by JJF in April 2019, the club was facing relegation to the third tier of the Kenya Football League. By December of the same year, JJF had put in place a robust team to steer the management of the club. This led to the team regaining its promotion to the Kenya Premier League where it currently competes.

JJF supports the Nairobi City Stars and uses Football as a tool to drive change within communities.
“Since joining the Nairobi City Stars team, I can now sustain myself financially; I can pay for my needs, support my mother and brother, and educate my child. It is an amazing feeling and I thank you.”
