Empowering Nairobi’s Informal Settlements: Monumental Donation by Jonathan Jackson Foundation and I&M Foundation

Jonathan Jackson Foundation (JJF) and the I&M Foundation are pleased to announce a successful contribution of capital goods to several women and youth groups in the Kayole community. This donation, which took place on Friday, 1st March 2024, is part of the Jenga Bizna Mtaani program by JJF, a strategic alliance aimed at stimulating various entrepreneurial activities within Nairobi’s informal sectors.

The groups positively impacted by this initiative include Cultural Pioneer Eagles, Cornerstone SHG, Swam Legend Family, Team Sierra, and Brighter Future. A total of 118 members from these groups have benefited from this initiative.

The donated items include a variety of capital goods, such as a P.A. sound system, handcarts, and food vending Smokie trolleys. These resources are anticipated to catalyze a multitude of business ventures, potentially creating an estimated 34 new jobs and significantly enhancing the economic progression of these communities. Team Sierra Chairperson voiced their appreciation, stating

We extend our gratitude to both JJF and the I&M Foundation for their generous donation of these handcarts. Previously, we incurred expenses by renting handcarts. Having these handcarts will assist us in cutting costs and enhancing everyone’s lives.

Similarly, a recipient from the Cultural Pioneer Eagles expressed,

The foundation has been supporting us for three years, providing entrepreneurial lessons. Today, they have generously provided us with a P.A. system, which will enhance the group’s income. Additionally, we plan to utilize the P.A. system to market ourselves within our community.

Millicent Ochieng

CEO of the I&M Foundation, Mr. Gateri, added,

When we, as the bank through the I&M Foundation, come to support you, it is because we want to help you achieve your dreams. We want to celebrate and say this is a person that we walked with, and now we see them achieving their dream.

The event was an overwhelming success, marked by direct interaction with community members and enlightening sessions on sustainable business strategies.
