Jonathan Jackson Foundation (JJF) donated a professional public address system complete with speakers, an audio mixer and microphones to Brighter Vision youth group based in Muslim Area, Kawangware, Nairobi. Through the building businesses program dubbed “Jenga Bizna Mtaani” the Founder and Chairman Mr. Jonathan Jackson addressed the youths and urged them to use the donated capital goods to earn an income and learn more on the ethics of accessing credit to further expand their business.

Mr. Jonathan Jackson challenged the young people to demonstrate courage in taking advantage of the local credit facilities to grow their business. “To be successful as an entrepreneur you must go outside there and borrow resources held by other people or entities. Whenever you borrow, make a plan of how you are going to pay back. Mr Jonathan also urged the local organizations to remove bottlenecks and not to impose unnecessary financial burdens to the youth, limiting their uptake of credit facilities. “You (Brighter Vision youth group) must learn to keep proper records which you can show to financial institutions so that they can give you loans to help you grow your businesses in the community. Marketing your PA system through social media, word of mouth, fliers and posters will help you spread the word about your business and can help potential customers locate you.” Remarked the philanthropic founder Jonathan Jackson.

The Brighter Vision youth group comprises of 13 male members most of whom are boda boda riders in Kawangware. The group meets weekly and are united by a goal of fighting poverty and it’s all forms through table banking, savings and investments. The Foundation’s Program Director, Mr. Boaz Onyango stated that JJF builds the capacity of the youth groups within the communities to ensure they operate with integrity and have unity of purpose. The Jenga Bizna Mtaani programme starts with assessing and pre-qualifying the business ideas that would create jobs and employment for the youths. Jenga Bizna Mtaani endeavors to economically empower young promising early-stage social enterprises and create an ecosystem for social entrepreneurship – encouraging sustainable, scalable, and measurable social impact.

To gain access to larger amount of capital and build bigger businesses, you must develop a track record of success in managing small amounts of capital. I want to come back here next time and hear your stories of how this business has grown to include other complementary services like catering, tent and chairs, events management and so on.” Remarked Mr Jonathan.

“As youths in the community, we appreciate the Jonathan Jackson Foundation for donating the Sound sytem to our group to allow us to earn income through it. We will continue to be a good example for the youth in Muslim Area and to the Kawangware and adjacent communities at large. We look forward to growing the number of the youths in the group to be inclusive  including of like-minded and focused females and PWDs in order to transform the society for both young men and women,” Mr. Kennedy Omolo, Brighter Vision’s Chairperson. A community member Miss Triza Ogutu who witnessed the handing over event encouraged other industry leaders to emulate Mr. Jonathan Jackson’s leadership and compassion for community work. “With investing in the youths, there will be less crime, drug abuse, prostitution among other social vices.” The Foundation has so far supported to build more than 20 business in the informal settlements in Nairobi and over created over 500 jobs. “JJF continues to serve vulnerable populations in Nairobi’s informal settlements through economic empowerment trainings, granting micro and small enterprises and using sports as a tool for social development,” Mr. Boaz Onyango.
