Jonathan Jackson Foundation Impact Investing In Kayole’s Informal Youth Businesses While Celebrating World Environmental Day 2023

Jonathan Jackson Foundation (JJF) joined the global community in commemorating this year’s World Environmental Day, themed “Beat Plastic Pollution.” JJF collaborated with community partners – Kayole Mtaa Safi, Bidii Youth Group, Street Smart Youth Group, and Destined for Greatness, along with other esteemed stakeholders – thus took part in a highly successful clean-up in the Kayole area. Nairobi City Stars FC players were among those who joined in commemorating the day.

The community clean-up activity started from the District Officer’s Office and stretched all the way to Nyando stage near Thawabu School in Kayole. These dedicated efforts of volunteers and community members contributed to the transformation of the Kayole neighborhood into a cleaner environment.

The area Member of County Assembly, Mr. Collins Ogega, applauded JJF for choosing to celebrate the World Environmental Day 2023 with the youths of Kayole and appealed for more partnership in ensuring clean sustainable environments in the informal areas.

Following the clean-up session, Jonathan Jackson, Chairman of JJF, made donations of capital goods to five beneficiary youth groups to establish their own businesses. This donation included 4 handcards, 2 smokey trolley and kitchen utensils for the establishment of a Tea business.  This donation is part of the JJF’s renowned Jenga Bizna Mtaani Program, which aims to economically empower vulnerable youth, women, and individuals with disabilities residing in Nairobi’s informal settlements. The donation will create an estimate of 24 jobs for the youths.

Chairman Jonathan Jackson stated, “… We’re very pleased to be a part of this and grateful to be part participating. We also supported the local community by giving them a hand carts so they can pick up the rubbish. We also supported another team here and giving them a food trolley so that they can provide food for the for the day as well. So, we are using this as an opportunity to do our main business and that is supporting youth with new businesses and helping them to be sustainable themselves.”

In addition to JJF’s efforts, two community members who have benefited from the businesses supported by JJF expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Steven Muremi of Street Smart youth group and a beneficiary of the Jenga Bizna Mtaani Program, shared his appreciation, saying, “As we celebrate World Environment Day, we would like to express our gratitude to the Jonathan Jackson Foundation for joining us in cleaning up our Kayole area. Additionally, we are thankful for their generous donation of capital goods to our group and others, which will assist us in our businesses beyond this day.”

As the World Environmental Day celebrations ends, JJF remains committed in its mission to empower communities through initiatives like the Jenga Bizna Mtaani Program, JJF continues to make a lasting impact on the lives of the youth in Nairobi’s informal communities.
